Princess, why you so contagious? Grace was completely surprised by Mia’s hug. It had been so long since anyone had hugged her- she was caught completely off guard. The gesture was welcome though, and Grace hugged her back before the other girl pulled away. She offered Mia a faint smile. It was just a small smile, but it was a real one- not the fake smile that she was used to wearing. When she was asked if she wanted to go back, Grace simply shook her head. There was no way she could or would go back to the gym- she would be completely embarrassed, and most likely have another panic attack. She smiled when Mia grinned at her, mentioning that class was nearly over. It was a small relief to Grace. She took Mia’s hand and was helped up from the locker room floor. She hadn’t realized how cold the tile had been on her bare legs. Grace frowned when Mia asked if she had another class. ”I think I have a free period…” She sighed softly. She looked up, her eyes wandering to the girls filing into the locker room. Grace saw them whisper to each other, and she felt her face go red. She heard Mia say something about gossip. She bit her lip, looking at the younger girl. ”They’re talking about me…aren’t they?” Grace choked back tears. She had never been so emotional before- she had always managed to force a smile on her face every day back at home. New York hadn’t been kind to her so far. Why did it bother her so much that people were talking about her? Grace had always been able to brush it off. She never usually spent time worrying about what other people thought. The city was going to eat her alive, she knew it. Anyone who showed any sign of weakness would certainly be the one who would be beaten up, bullied, hurt. Grace was starting to realize that New York wasn’t as safe as Tennessee. New York seemed to be a dog-eat-dog city. Grace wiped her eyes, trying to prevent the tears welling up from running down her face. She wondered what the other girls were whispering about her. She considered running from the locker room for a moment, and not stopping until she reached her apartment. But Mia was still there, and she had faith in the other girl’s ability to make her feel better.

watch out girl, those bruises are overtaking you Mia was going to comment on her luckiness on having a free period when she saw Grace’s face go red. Before she could ask why that was happening, Grace asked her a question. The brunette frowned, looking behind her at the gossiping girls, who turned away, but continued their whispering. She sighed and turned back to Grace, an apologetic smile on her face. “Most likely, yeah,” she said. She bit her lip as she saw Grace’s eyes start watering. She couldn’t believe someone as awesome as Grace would let girls like the ones behind them get to her. She was way better than them and Mia wanted her to know that.
“Hey, don’t let them get to you,” she said, reaching out and gripping the other girls shoulder in her hand. “They’re probably talking about why you had to leave class,” she added. “Probably something along the lines of your ‘special friend’ has come along and you needed to get away,” she joked. Many girls had used that excuse to get out of Gym and, for the most part, the coaches allowed them too, but only usually for the first timers. If you were a Senior, then you were basically screwed. “Come one, let’s go change back,” she said, letting her hand travel down Grace’s arm so she could grip her wrist. “Unless you want to wear that for the rest of the day?” she questioned motioning to her shorts and shirt. It would undoubtedly get colder and the last thing she wanted was for her new friend to be sick.
She lightly tugged on her wrist, pulling her over to the side of the room where her assigned locker was. “Have you got one yet?” she asked her as she began spinning her combination. Here, if you didn’t lock up your stuff, it would get stolen. No matter how crappy you thought it was, there was someone whose stuff was even worse. “I didn’t see you come in so…” she trailed off, looking at the redhead expectantly. She figured she had probably already been out on the floor when Grace changed. Which was unfortunate for Mia; she could never hide the fact that she liked to have wandering eyes as everyone changed. status: complete! tag: Grace! word count: 373! outfit: click!notes: no, it was fine!

Princess, why you so contagious? Grace frowned when Mia confirmed that they were most likely talking about her. The frown turned into a little smile when the other put a hand on her shoulder. She couldn't help at Mia's joke. Special friend. Grace giggled lightly. Her newfound friend was proving to be every bit as nice as she could've hoped for. She nodded when Mia said that they should change. "I definitely don't want to wear this the rest of the day..." she said with a faint smile on her face, looking down at the old T shirt she had on. She trotted alongside the other girl as she led Grace to her locker. When asked about a locker, she bit her lip. "No...I haven't got a locker yet..." She felt her heart drop Mia mentioned that her stuff would get stolen if she didn't lock it up. She had left her backpack under a bench near a row of lockers before she had hurried into the gym. "Hold on..." She walked quickly to the other side of the locker room, avoiding the eyes of the other girls. If she saw them whispering about her, she would certainly start to cry. Grace sighed softly when she saw her backpack was still right where she left it. She picked it up, walking quickly back to the row of lockers where Mia was. She set her backpack on the ground, pulling out the jeans and T shirt that she had been wearing. Grace pulled off her gym shirt, pulling on the clean blue shirt. She was completely comfortable changing in front of Mia, though she hadn't known the girl for longer than a class period. She knew enough about the other girl to be comfortable with her. Grace pulled off her sneakers, and quickly slipped her shorts off. She put her jeans on, one leg at a time, leaning against one row of lockers so that she wouldn't fall over. Grace wasn't the most coordinated girl on earth. She stuffed her gym clothes back in her backpack. She put her sneakers back on, smiling at Mia.

watch out girl, those bruises are overtaking you Mia watched as Grace left and saw her head down to a bench further down the aisle before stooping down and grabbing her bag. She was glad that the other girls things were still all there, but she figured since everyone had already been out of the changing rooms, they hadn’t known about them being unguarded. She made a mental note to ask the coach to assign her a locker before their next class. She pulled out her own clothes, making sure her jewelry didn’t fall on the floor since she didn’t like wearing it during class. “Since you don’t have one yet, you can use my locker until you get one,” she said after a moment, looking over at Grace. She immediately felt her breath catch as she saw the other girl start to undress.
Mia was quite used to seeing various shapes of bodies during Gym; some she liked, some not so much. However, since Grace was new, she took the girl’s distractedness as reason enough to swipe her eyes over her body from head to toe before it was eventually covered by her clothes. When the redhead began slipping her sneakers back on, Mia took that as her cue to look away, unless she wanted to be caught staring. Which she didn’t. She quickly removed her own hoodie and shirt, slipping her clean ones back on. She took an idle glance at the clock and frowned. They only had a few more minutes before glass ended; she should hurry up.
It didn’t take long before she was finished and she looked over at Grace, seeing the other girl smiling at her. “Well, don’t you clean up good?” she said, grinning at her. “So, you gonna take those home, or you wanna put them in here?” she asked, gesturing to her locker. “It’s not as if we worked up a sweat or anything,” she added jokingly. She stuffed her own clothes back in the locker, making sure there was enough room for Grace’s stuff should she want to put them in there. As she waited for an answer, she quickly fixed her hair, easily putting it in a messy bun; she couldn’t be bothered to do anything more with it. status: complete! tag: Grace! word count: 372! outfit: click!notes: new outfit!

Princess, why you so contagious? As Grace was changing, she had a funny feeling that she was being watched. It was the funny feeling of knowing that someone was looking at you- the kind of feeling that makes you want to look around to see who it was. It was probably the other girls, laughing at her or whispering to each other. She didn't look up until she had her sneakers on, afraid that she might see a group of girls looking at her. Looking over her shoulder, she didn't see anyone there. That was strange. She swore that someone had been staring at her.
"Well, don’t you clean up good?" Grace smiled. She didn't know that anyone could be so nice- especially someone she hardly knew. She wasn't used to the kindness that Mia showed her, at least not yet. Grace's own mother hadn't even been so sweet. It was a nice change though. She wished that everyone in New York was as nice as Mia, but she knew that wasn't likely at all. Most people would probably be the opposite of the sweet girl.
"So, you gonna take those home, or you wanna put them in here? It’s not as if we worked up a sweat or anything," Grace smiled gratefully, "Thank you so much Mia...honestly." She took a moment to fold up her gym clothes before setting them in the locker with the other girl's clothes. Glancing at the clock, Grace could see that there wasn't much time left in class. She frowned. She didn't want to have a free period. Free periods meant having nothing to do and nobody to talk to. Of course, Mia was the first person that she had really talked to since moving to New York. Everyone else just seemed scary to the redhead. Grace touched the younger girl's shoulder, "I don't know what to do...for my free period. I'm not good at talking to people anyway and everyone here is so..." She trailed off, not sure of what to say. She frowned, "Everyone here scares me. You're the only one who doesn't so far."

watch out girl, those bruises are overtaking you Mia’s head tilted to the head slightly at Grace’s comment. She really didn’t know why she was being thanked, she wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. But she accepted it with a smile, if Grace was honest about, which she was, then that was okay. She was a little started at what the girl said next. Scared? She could see that. New York was a scary place even for natives so it was no wonder that a girl like Grace was having a hard time adjusting. She vowed that she would make the older girl less scared of this place no matter what it took. Someone shouldn’t have to live their life in constant worry.
“There’s no reason to be scared. Sure some of these guys are obnoxious and a little mean, but for the most part, you should be okay,” she told her. “I know my way around this place, I’ll make sure you don’t do anything completely jeopardizing to your reputation,” she added, only slightly joking. Mia reached up, grabbing Grace’s hand, and gave it a small squeeze. “Now, as for your free period, you can do just about anything,” she said, stooping to grab her book bag and she slung it over her shoulder. “You don’t have to talk to people or nothing. You can even stay in the library if you want,” she said.
Mia lightly gripped the redhead’s wrist and started walking with her towards the door. “Look, not everyone here is scary and I know for fact that a lot of nice people have this free period,” she told her. “Usually if they see you’re new, they might walk over, say ‘hey’ or whatever,” she said. “All you have to do is strike up a conversation with them. Music’s always a good thing because you’ll probably end up talking about artists that you both like or something,” she added, smiling at her. “Grace, you’ll be fine. I promise,” she said before leaning in and hugging her. status: complete! tag: Grace! word count: 347! outfit: click!notes: eh, i don't like it!

Princess, why you so contagious? Grace bit her lip, listening to everything Mia had to say. She smiled when the other girl promised not to let anything ruin her reputation. She followed Mia when she grabbed her wrist. A free period didn't sound so bad now. Maybe she would just stay in the library. It would be easy enough to avoid people there. She was hanging on Mia's every word, making little notes to self as the younger girl talked. Music was something that Grace could talk about with people, that was for sure. Music was her life, and her dream. Music was the reason that she had moved to New York in the first place.
"Grace, you’ll be fine. I promise," Grace accepted the hug happily, hugging Mia back. She let it last longer than she should've, before pulling back. She smiled halfheartedly at the other girl. She didn't really want to her to leave. "I...guess I'll see you later then?" The redhead said, an eager note in her voice. Mia was the only person she could consider a friend at the moment, and she felt lucky that she knew her at all. Grace pushed open the door, stepping out into the hallway. The air felt cleaner there, less hot and humid. She took a deep breath, not quite ready to walk the halls alone. She looked back at Mia, biting her lip.

watch out girl, those bruises are overtaking you Mia nodded. “Of course. I’ll try to find you after the last bell rings, okay?” she said as she shouldered her bag as she felt it sink a little. “Maybe we could go to my house?” she suggested on a whim. She would probably sneak a call to her parents to see if it was alright first. They usually didn’t have a problem with it, but sometimes they had something else planned and Mia didn’t want to think badly of Grace after their first meeting. She followed the redhead out of the locker room, seeing that everyone else was crowding around the hallways that led to them, eager to go to other classes or to leave for their free period.
She glanced at the clock and saw that the bell would ring in about a minute. She glanced over at Grace, a soft smile on her face. “Well, looks like we’re gonna part pretty soon,” she said, looking a little sad. Even though her and Grace had just met, she could already see herself becoming great friends with the other girl and she hoped Grace felt the same. She wasn’t ready to see her leave just yet, a little worried how she would do so soon after her…she didn’t want to call it a breakdown, but it was. Kind of. There was a tone and the mass of students outside the locker rooms suddenly surged forward, glad to leave. “I’ll see you!” Mia called as she found herself swept away with the tide of students. status: complete! tag: Grace! word count: 255! outfit: click!notes: the end?
